How to Check If Your Android Phone Supports AI Features

Learn how to check whether your Android phone supports AI features such as Gemini, Magic Editor, Circle to Search, live translation, smart reply, and on-device AI tools.

AI features are becoming more common on Android phones, but not every device supports every AI tool. Some features depend on your Android version, processor, region, app version, and manufacturer support.

To check if your Android phone supports AI features, start by opening the Settings app. Go to About phone and check your Android version. Most modern AI features work better on newer Android versions, so keeping your phone updated is important.

Next, check for system updates. Open Settings > System > Software update. If an update is available, install it. Many AI features arrive through system updates or monthly security patches.

You should also update Google apps from the Play Store. Open the Google Play Store, search for Google, Gemini, Google Photos, Messages, and Android System Intelligence, then update them if available.

After that, open the Gemini app or Google Assistant settings. If Gemini is available on your device, you may see options to use it as your main assistant. Some phones also show AI tools directly inside the camera, photo editor, keyboard, recorder, or messages app.

For photo-related AI features, open Google Photos and select an image. Tap Edit and check whether tools like Magic Editor, Magic Eraser, or AI suggestions are available.

For Circle to Search, long-press the home button or navigation bar. If your phone supports it, a search overlay will appear. If nothing happens, the feature may not be available on your model yet.

Finally, check your phone brand’s official software page. Samsung, Google Pixel, Motorola, OnePlus, Xiaomi, and other brands often publish lists of devices that support new AI features.

If your phone does not support some AI tools, you can still use cloud-based AI apps like Gemini, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, and Perplexity through apps or browsers.
